Habits


We all have habits, some good and some bad, it’s when a bad habit takes over our life and causes us stress and anxiety that it becomes a problem, this is usually due to the fact that it is no longer required, although it might have started as a good habit, it has now out lasted it’s welcome.  Habits can seem hard to break, this is because the habit hasn’t been established by the logical intellectual part of your mind (Conscious), it has been established in the subconscious mind where automatic and unconscious actions take place continuously.  Removing a habit can cause distress and create disruption, if you create a void in your life by removing a habit like smoking, that void needs to be filled with something more desirable than the old habit, without this, it can cause distress and anxiety as there is spare time to think about the old habit, and without something to replace it, it can be too tempting to go back to the old comfortable way that we’re so used to.  After all, the subconscious mind doesn’t really like change and likes stability, unless given the choice for something better.


Treating Habits


To change any habit, particularly a long established habit, we need to bypass the critical factor (conscious mind) and go direct to the subconscious mind where all the necessary change work and reprogramming can be done under hypnosis by giving you a strategy that moves you away from the pain of the habit to the pleasures of being free from the habit.  Under hypnosis, changes can be reprogrammed so the bad habits are replaced by a more desirable outcome.  A smoker knows about all the harm smoking causes to their health along with the costs of smoking, these can be replaced with a vision of a healthy new body that is becoming healthier on a daily basis as the body begins to adjust to the new healthier way, and the money being saved could go towards something they truly want or even a dream holiday.  These suggestions would be adapted to the client’s personal goals gathered in the initial consultation.
