How do changes happen with hypnosis?

To make changes using hypnosis, the hypnotist has to first get permission from the client in a conscious state, without permission the subconscious mind can and will prevent changes taking place.  This isn’t because the subconscious mind wants to harm you in any way by preventing these change’s taking place, it’s actually trying to protect you at a subconscious level.  Because your subconscious mind has been doing the same old habits over time over and over again it feels safe, and feeling safe seems like the best way of looking after your best interests, which is what your subconscious mind automatically does on a daily basis.

Every time you do a new activity, a neural pathological pathway is established in the brain, and the more you do that new activity the more the pathway gets stronger.  Think of it metaphorically like walking in long grass, the more often you walk along the same route in long grass a pathway is eventually formed; this is similar to how habits are formed in the brain, the neural pathological pathway becomes more and more established just like a habit.  To break a habit, particularly a bad habit, you need to form new neural pathological pathways that steer you away from old habits.  Under hypnosis, suggestions can be made to help open up new pathological pathways helping changes take place forming new and better habits that are more beneficial to you.  Changes can be made under hypnosis because the mind can’t distinguish from what’s real on the outside world or just made up in our imagination.  Once the client gives permission to be hypnotised to help make changes they want, we have to create desire, why do they want to make changes?  Is their desire strong enough for the suggestions to take effect?  If not, the suggestions won’t work that effectively.  If their desire is strong enough, we have to create belief that it will work for them and the expectation of the changes that will take place.  With all this in mind we can progress to start making the desired changes the client is wanting.
