What is NLP?
Neuro-Linguistic Programming was devised in the 1970s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder. Their findings were based on the study of the work Milton H Erickson, a world famous psychotherapist and hypnotherapist, Fritz Perls, the founder of Gestalt psychology and Virginia Satir who was a family therapist.
Neuro – Refers to our neurological system, it is based on the idea that we experience the world through our five senses that translate sensory information into thought processes, both consciously and unconsciously. This affects our physiology, emotions and behaviours.
Linguistic – Refers to the way we use language to make sense of the world around us and how we communicate with ourselves and to others. Linguistics is the study of how the words you speak influence your experience.
Programming – Refers to way we code or mentally represent our experiences. Your programming consists of your internal processes and strategies (thinking patterns) that we use to make decisions, evaluate, learn and solve problems.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming can help you to re-frame your old way of thinking and how you interpret your experiences and experience them in a new and better way. When used in conjunction with hypnotherapy, NLP exercises can help you access your subconscious mind and start to understand where certain feelings and emotions originate. This will help you to break old negative limiting belief patterns you may have about yourself and help you to start focusing on more positive and successful outcomes.
